Grace Miller is facing a troubled marriage and is coming to terms with her infertility, when she decides to embark on a personal journey to discover more about herself and what she really wants out of her life.  She ends up in Macau, China and opens a café- baking up delicious concoctions to complement the journey she is on.  What she finds there is more than she could have imagined.

The Color of Tea did not really impress me much, unfortunately.  The characters did not resonate, and  Grace was somewhat tedious to follow at times as she focused on all the wrong things.  I imagine many would identify with her a bit more than I did, based on personal life situations.  However, I felt that the story was supposed to be something to savor, but I just could not palate much more by the end- which was predictable at best.   I also felt that there could have been much more done with the cultural influences of China, which would have created a much more in-depth read.

With such a yummy cover and mouth-watering pastry descriptions, Tunnicliffe should have focused a bit more on character development and storyline, rather than relying on winning over our taste buds.  The Color of Tea is perhaps best described as a less seasoned version of Chocolat or Eat, Pray, Love– which, does not mean to pass it by, but merely read as an appetizer to the world of foodie fiction.
