When Brielle moves back from the city to a sleepy Oregon town to live with her dad, reeling from the impact of her best friend’s death, she expects to be able to focus on healing from the tragedy. However, she winds up in the middle of a battle between angels and demons and finds truths that she never would have dreamed. Helping her along is the new guy, Jake, who seems to have secrets of his own. While Brielle is struggling to make it through each day while her world seems to crumble, she finds strength and hope in the most unlikely, and dangerous places.
Angel Eyes was a good story with fairly complex lore of angels and demons. However, it left me with a somewhat apathetic feeling about it all. I knew going into it that it would have a Christian leaning, being a Thomas Nelson publication, but, even given that, it was a bit heavy-handed toward the end on the God-makes-everything-better preaching. For me, it became too occupied with conveying such an agenda that the characters became somewhat lost in the shuffle.
This is definitely a book for those that enjoy a Christian-based take at angels and demons- not for the Supernatural crowd. Personally, I like the darker approach to such things, but Angel Eyes certainly has an audience for those that prefer to leave the gore and demonology behind. Dittemore has given a great debut for her select audience, and has provided a perfect segue in the next in the series.
