Pub. Date: October 4, 2011
Anne Burrell is a dynamic newer personality from the Food Network who loves to have fun with food- and teach others how to do the same. In this collection of recipes, she attempts to help the reader rock out in the kitchen to the beat of their own drum. Burrell has a bright personality, and she manages to convey that into every dish she serves up.
There are many recipes in the book that will help the average cook to work some new ideas and pizzaz into dinner for while. It also has many helpful hints and information throughout for those not so familiar with the kitchen but want to make that special meal in an easy way. With useful recipes that can have endless possibilities, such as Grilled Pizzetta (Burrell’s version of a quick pizza) and Pumpkin Soup, Burrell supplies simple ideas that the reader can translate into many different dishes.
The main drawback of this cookbook is Burrell’s heavy reliance on seafood dishes. With many ideas involving shrimp, soft-shell crab, sea scallops, and oysters, it may be too expensive for some to justify for one meal. However, if you love seafood, have access to fresh and reasonably-priced sources, this book will supply a lot more ideas for your next meal.
So, will you be a rock star in the kitchen after reading this? You will at least be on your way with this source of inspiration, but you may have to settle on pop star status for a bit before gaining full-fledged rock cred. Cook Like a Rock Star is a good addition to your collection if you want some new ideas, or if you just really like Anne Burrell’s Food Network personality.
