What if your entire world was built on a lie?

Publication Date: January 3, 2012
Amanda Hocking has been called a “wunderkid” and a “self-publishing sensation,” receiving notice from the likes of The New York Times and USA Today. Given her success as an independent, she has now been signed to a major publishing deal with St. Martin’s Griffin. After reading Switched, it is no wonder why Hocking has been such a success. The first in a trilogy, it is a great introduction to a successful sci-fi/ fantasy series.
When Wendy Everly is told that she was a changeling at birth, and is a princess in her birth town of trolls, she has a lot of decisions to make. She has always felt that she was different and didn’t quite fit in with her life, but this was not what she expected to find out as the truth about her. Wendy must decide if she really can leave her family for somewhere she knows nothing about.
As Wendy learns more and more about the Trylle (the name of her troll species), she learns more about herself as well. However, there are many mysteries she must sort through. Discovering who her birth mother really is, figuring out why the Trylle use their powers less than in the past, and learning who is to be trusted at all, proves to be overwhelming at times.
Perhaps the hardest lesson she must learn is that as the Trylle princess she is not permitted to become involved with someone of a lesser station in life. It quickly becomes clear that there is a class hierarchy that Wendy feels needs to be challenged, but doing so will be a dangerous mission. Will she face all the challenges in what could be her new life, or hide from it all in her old life?
In Switched, Hocking gives us the background and setup that is needed to understand the challenges Wendy Everly will face in her future. It is a magical page-turner that will leave the reader waiting to pick up the next book immediately to find out how Wendy will handle the truth about her life. This is one Trylle-ogy that should not be missed!
